“Seeing everything that goes on in your daily life, your daily activities -when you pick up a pen, when you talk, when you go out for a drive or when you are walking alone in the woods- can you with one breath, with one look, know yourself very simply as you are?”
Freedom from the Known,121

“In oneself lies the whole world and if you know how to look and learn, the door is there and the key is in your hand. Nobody on earth can give you either the key or the door to open, except yourself. “
You are the World, Chapter 11, 14 February 1969

“Relationship is our problem, and without understanding relationship, merely to be active is to produce further confusion, further misery. Action is relationship: to be is to be related. Do what you will - withdraw to the mountains, sit in a forest - you cannot live in isolation. You can live only in relationship, and as long as relationship is not understood, there can be no right action. Right action comes in understanding relationship, which reveals the process of oneself. Self-knowledge is the beginning of wisdom; it is a field of affection, warmth, and love, therefore a field rich with flowers.”
Collected Works, Vol. V - 96

Study Retreat June 6-9 2013: Harmony in Relationship

Life is relationship. There is no possibility of living in isolation. What is the quality of one’s relationship with nature, things, and human beings? Rather, one should ask what is the quality of the mind that is in relationship. The quality of one’s mind and the quality of relationship are inseparable. Can one set to bring about harmony in relationship through effort? Effort implies will and struggle. Can one approach this question with a tension that is able to hold the question and learn as the question unfolds.

Harmony in relationship is possible when one does not take one’s relationship for granted. This implies learning about expectations, possessiveness, jealousy, and so on. One also needs to go deeper to understand one’s own instability arising out of loneliness. Is there a relationship that is not bound by duties. What is the responsibility in relationship?

You are invited to come for a three day retreat to explore relationship afresh in company with others who are equally interested. The exploration in retreat may bring a new perspective to our relationship and may bring a living in simplicity and harmony.

The Study Retreats 2013-2014

The Study Centre, Valley School, Bangalore will be offering residential retreats every month. The purpose of such retreats is to take a step back from ones active daily life of making a living, having a family, and all the other activities that one is engaged in. During the retreat one can be alone and also in company of other serious minded individuals who have deeper questions of life and are willing to delve into the nature of human consciousness without any preconditions or with the aim of reaching any specific goal. Taking a journey within oneself brings about a certain release from the various conclusions, ideas, and tensions that one often accumulates in daily life. After the retreat one returns to daily living with an alert mind that is able to meet afresh the challenges of life.

Attending the retreat allows a teacher or parent to learn the intention of the school. The educational philosophy of the school helps in bringing about various policies and curriculum design in the school.
